Kampung Ketek The Almost Forgotten…

I was supposed to update about Kampung Ketek, Melaka during my trip to Melaka, on last school holidays in June 2011. Kampung Ketek some how or rather has a nostalgic and sentimental values to my hubby. He was brought up here in this kampung during his childhood, at that time he was about 9-10 years old.

Kampung Ketek can be easily found by walking along Jalan Kuil adjacent to Jonker Street (Jonker Walk). Just opposite the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple you'll see a Signage ‘Kampung Ketek’. Follow the signage to a small brick pathway to a hidden historic Malay Village..... Kampung Ketek, the almost forgotten....

A small path to Kampung Ketek starts from here…

Kampung Ketek or Ketek Village, according to my hubby is one of the oldest village recorded since the Dutch era. In the past, Kampung Ketek was called Kampung Pali. Now it is surrounded by old shop houses and strategically located at the UNESCO world heritage zone.

Once upon a time...this was the house
where my hubby and his family used to live.
Now the house and others are gazetted
as part of Melaka historical and heritage zone.

This is the pathway used to be my hubby's childhood 'playground'.....

Also at Kampung Ketek reside the legendary Abdullah Munsyi's house, a famous Malay literary figure in 18th century and now describes as “The Father of Modern Malay Literature”.

Next to Abdullah Munsyi's house is Syamssudin Al-Sumatrani's Tomb, dated back in Portuguese period – 16th Century. Syamssudin Al-Sumatrani was a warrior who fought the Portuguese in Melaka.

This was once another place
of my hubby's favourite childhood 'playground'....
The graveyards were believed to be the graves
of the earliest Sumatra people (Achehnese) who died in Melaka

My story of Cuti-Cuti Melaka - Kampung Ketek ends here. Well if you plan to sight seeing the Religious building at Kampung Harmony, Kampung Kling Mosque, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple or hunting for hundred years old antiques and Jonker Street, drop by at Kampung Ketek certainly will add another interesting topics at your Journey To The World Heritage Site.....

My family and I, a photo for remembrance....
